Since my early years, I have been in love with the Atlantic Ocean. My extended family owned a sound-side bungalow which we would visit every summer in Morehead City. I remember the fiddler crabs playing under the slatted floor of the outdoor shower. The sea life, the sun, the sand, and the culture create an environment where most people love to vacation, and a few fortunate ones get to live. My husband, two adult daughters, and our animals decided to switch from the occasional holiday on Bogue Banks to full-time living in the town of Emerald Isle in 2016. North Carolina represents to me the feeling of home and ability to commune with nature. I grew up in Texas, where everything was bigger – the homes, stores, opportunities. It seemed to have it all but lacked the depth and authenticity the Crystal Coast provides. Born in Michigan and raised in Wisconsin, it was hard to imagine ever finding a place to live as gorgeous as the Great Lakes States. I enjoyed forests full of lush green, abundant wildlife, and crystal clear waters. While standing on the shores of Superior, it was always amazing to look across a body of water so vast the opposite shore was out of view. Not until our family vacationed in North Carolina did we experience a similar beauty. For over 30 years we have been visiting the State.
